Reflections is a NATIONAL arts competition that is run annually by the National PTA. As Maercker District 60 is a part of the PTA - your kids can compete!
You may have heard about Reflections at the start of the school year, but now is the time where we are heading toward deadlines. All entries are due by November 16.
Kids can enter multiple pieces of art across 6 categories:
Photography - single image (no collages) film or digital, with editing allowed.
Literature - original written fiction or nonfiction piece: prose, poetry, reflective essay, screen play and play script, narrative, and short story.
Music Composition - original song written by the student (performer can be student and/or include others)
Dance Choreography - original dance choreographed by the student (performer can be student and/or include others)
Film Productions - animation, documentary, media, etc. Must be written, filmed, edited by the student (performer can be student and/or include others)
Visual Arts - accepted, including but not limited to: architectural drawing and models, ceramics, collage, computer generated images and graphics, crafts, drawing, fashion clothes and jewelry, fiber work, mixed media, painting, printmaking and sculpture. May not include copyrighted work.
Rules about format and entries are available by clicking here.
Students' work must include a completed entry form which includes the critical ARTIST STATEMENT which is part of the judging. The Artist Statement simply describes how the student was inspired by the theme "I am hopeful because..." to create their piece. Entry form is available by clicking here (also includes rules)
Entries which meet the requirements are judged blindly and the top 3 in each category per school will advance to the Regional competition. From there they could advance to state and national levels. Last year we had a National Finalist! We will also have an awards ceremony in the late winter to celebrate all of our artistst.
To submit your entries digitally, please use this form. Please submit digital images of physical work via this form to make it easier for us to process and send to judges. Note that you should also submit physical pieces via the front office in case your work advances to the state as they prefer to have both for viewing.
Let's get creative and show the world the amazing work from Maercker d60!
